NCBI Description of SYT8

Synaptotagmins, such as SYT8, share a common domain structure that includes a transmembrane domain and a cytoplasmic region composed of 2 C2 domains. Some synaptotagmins are involved in synaptic membrane fusion, while others have a more general function in endocytosis. For further information on synaptotagmins, see MIM 185605.[supplied by OMIM, May 2003]. CCDS Note: The coding region has been updated to represent an alternative 3' splice pattern, resulting in a longer and distinct C-terminus that is better supported by available transcript and homology data. The update adds two C2 domains (Ca2+-dependent membrane-targeting modules), which are hallmarks of synaptotagmin proteins.

Figure notes

• "Mouse over" a mutation to see details.
• Missense green saturation indicates evolutionary conservation of the mutated positions.
• Red hashes in protein strip are splice sites.
• Blue-white-red bars are log2 copy ratio distributions (–1 to +1) from Zack et al. (2013).
